How It Went
Despite occasional rain outside, over 1,200 guests from the greater Sacramento area and nearby Northern California cities packed the Folsom Community Center for our biggest Grand Boishakhi Mela yet. The Honorable Mayor of Folsom, Justin Raithel, inaugurated the event and stayed to soak in the community's warmth and energy.
The stage brought this year's theme to life with 25 performances by 20+ young stars and 50+ adult performers, plus two lively quiz shows. The program journeyed through the soul of Bengal — a tribute to the iconic Ramna Batamul, the melodious songs and recitations of Rabindranath and Nazrul, and a regional diversity tour of Jhumur, Monipuri, Sylheti folk, and Barishal's Bhatiyali — woven together with 12 beautifully choreographed dances and a high-energy flash mob that brought the house down.
None of it would have been possible without our volunteers, who transformed the hall into a vibrant Boishakhi setting and sheltered guests from the rain, our vendors who filled the hall with Bengali food, clothing, jewelry, and books, and our generous sponsors who believed in the community.
“Your presence is the very heart of Anandamela, and it gave meaning to every rehearsal, every decoration, and every dish served.”
